Tila Tequila. People hear the name and have an immediate response. They either LOVE her or HATE her. There is no in between. In just 10 years, she’s fought her way up from nothing to become a successful entrepreneur, and in an industry usually dominated by men. Actress, clothing designer, humanitarian, celebrity blogger, musician, manager, author of the 2009 book Hooking Up with Tila Tequila, and Internet maven, Tila is so powerful that TIME magazine dubbed her the “Madonna of MySpace" in their "PERSON OF THE YEAR" issue! Tila is no longer just another Hollywood reality starlet. She is a mogul who is the president of her own record label, "TILA TEQUILA RECORDS," to which she just signed two major acts (one of whom, a multi-platinum artist, chose a record deal with Tila's label, rather than go with a major), and has plans for many more to come! She also has her own management firm, "Little Miss Trendsetter LLC," where she, herself, manages actors, models, musicians, athletes, and professional dance crews. Given that she has, indeed, proven herself to be a marketing genius, Tila knows exactly how to garner attention and Internet traffic. "Perez Hilton is SO last year!" Tila says. "It's time for someone to take his spot, and the person who is brave enough, smart enough, and has a huge enough Internet following to do so, will be me, of course! BYE-BYE, PEREZ! HELLO TILA! The NEW Queen of all Media.” Or, as she puts it on her site, the “OMG OF ALL MEDIA...LOLOL.”

 

There is SO much going on with Tila Tequila right now. Despite all the gossip and rumors claiming that she is just another Hollywood party girl, Tila works her butt off!  That's why she recently landed a deal with Aspen Comics to have her very own trilogy of comic books, which will then be pitched for adaptation to the big screen! Wait, that's not all. You will soon be seeing Tila a lot more. She just chose from among the many TV production companies that were fighting to make a show with her and closed a deal with 3Ball Productions for a new TV show!

Total domination of the world’s new media is all in a day’s work for Tila. But her first love is music, and she’s got the chops to back it up, too. “She has the voice of a chanteuse of days gone by,” says friend and collaborator Billy Corgan, front man for alternative rock icons The Smashing Pumpkins. She’s been busy in the studio, and she’s ready to share it with the world. Her new single “I Love My DJ” hits the streets via iTunes on April 6, 2010, and her EP “Welcome to the Darkside” drops on iTunes, through her own Tila Tequila Records, on May 4, 2010.

Growing up also means giving even more of herself to her longtime passion for philanthropy. She’s expanding her nonprofit organization, Jayden’s Angels, which helps less fortunate children buy new clothes and school supplies year round. Miss Tila is also working diligently to become the U.S. Ambassador to her native Vietnam! All of this is gaining her raves from some friends in very high places, who know the real Tila behind the pop culture rumors and lies. “You are an angel sent from God,” says Reggie Martin, US Warden for the US Consulate of Hong Kong, who has been helping with her diplomatic aspirations.

She’s gained respect from another blogger and pop culture powerhouse, too. “I’m proud to call Tila my friend,” says Meghan McCain, daughter of Senator John McCain and creator of McCain Blogette. “We’re both strong…independent women.”

And she’s impressed a fellow mogul and humanitarian who’s also her own personal idol. “My friend Tila has used her celebrity to be an agent for change in two important causes that she and I feel very passionate about: her voice for animal rights and gay rights is very valuable, and for that, I love her,” says Russell Simmons.

She gives back because she knows what it means to come from nowhere. Born in Singapore, she is the youngest daughter of Vietnamese immigrants and grew up very poor in Houston, Texas. She had to live an adult life from a young age, helping her parents at their flea market stall on weekends, and missing out on having a normal childhood.

Such hardship taught her to never back down. By the age of 18, she was among the most in demand models on the import car circuit and DOMINATED every single magazine in the import modeling world. Ten years ago, at the tender age of 18, Miss Tila built her very own Web site, www.TilasHotSpot.com < http://www.TilasHotSpot.com>, and a decade later, it is still going strong!!! One of the first entrepreneurs to utilize the Internet, Tila was already making money in high school by charging people to become members of her Web site. When she was 19, she took courage and chased her dreams of becoming popular worldwide! Without knowing anything about Hollywood, Tila took a chance and moved to Los Angeles with only $300 to live on. In 2002, while back in Houston for a visit, she was discovered by a Playboy scout at the Galleria Mall. She became the first Asian Cyber Girl of the Month and appeared in Playboy six times. She took every individual success and pushed herself that much further along, getting more opportunities as a model and car model, and attracting even more fans.

Whatever new social networking site came along, she took it over. The only problem was that her big attitude kept getting her kicked off sites, including Friendster. Finally, when MySpace founder Tom Anderson personally invited her to join his then-fledgling site in 2003, Tila herself brought more than 50,000 people with her. And the phenomenon kept growing: by 2005, she was such a sensation that she was being dubbed “The Queen of the Internet.”  By then, the name "TILA TEQUILA" was on everyone’s lips. People were fascinated by her. And they still are.

MTV took notice and gave her a show, “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila,” in 2007. It was one of the first television programs to openly address bisexuality, as Tila searched for true love with the man, or the woman, of her dreams. Proving that everywhere she goes, her fans will follow, it was one of MTV’s highest rated shows during the two years that it ran, earning as many as 4.2 million viewers a night. The season one finale drew more than 6 million viewers, making it MTV’s most-watched series telecast, at that time, in more than 10 years! It is safe to say that Tila Tequila brought MTV back to the top of the pop culture heap!

TIla was everywhere. She landed on the cover of pretty much every single magazine you can think of, and many prestigious newspapers wrote articles about her, applauding her for being an Internet pioneer!

The growing buzz drew attention to Tila’s music, which she had written and posted on her Myspace page, and she gained interest from major labels including Jive, Will.I.Am <http://Will.I.Am>, Interscope and Atlantic Records! However, Tila once aging took a chance on herself and released her songs on iTunes. Her first single, “I Love You,” produced by hit maker Lil Jon, sold more than many indie artists signed to major labels, and more, even, than some major label artists. Tila did this without any type of promotion, except for what she did by herself on the Internet!

A lot of people like to talk. But Ms. Tila Nguyen prefers her actions to speak for themselves.
